Silver Cross Foundation appoints 2 new members

Dr. Mark Danielson and Nick Tyrell join the foundation’s board of directors

The Silver Cross Foundation recently appointed two new members to its board of directors, according to a news release from Silver Cross.

They are Dr. Mark Danielson, a retired general surgeon, and Nick Tyrell, a financial advisor in Edward Jones’ Joliet office.

They join the other members of the foundation’s board of directors are Claudia Aguirre, Ben Benson, Tim Borchert, Ruth Colby, Sonia Coleman, Laura Czerkies, Susan Frangella, Lydia Garvey, Judy Hageman (treasurer), Stacy Holland (secretary), Craig Lyons (chairman), Kathy Miller (vice chairman), Jim Pitcairn and Michele Vana, the release said.

Danielson worked as a general surgeon at Silver Cross for 32 years, retiring in 2020. During that time, he served in the following areas on the Silver Cross board of trustees as vice chairman of the Quality & Cost Effectiveness Committee for four years and chairman of the department of surgery for three terms.

He received the Silver Cross Sehring Medal of Excellence in health care in 2010.

Danielson has volunteered with the Will-Grundy Medical Clinic and the Christian Youth Center board [serving as president for 14 years]. For more than 10 years, Danielson has been a foster parent with the Evangelical Child and Family Agency.

He has also participated in medical mission work in Honduras with the World Gospel Outreach and with Cup of Cold Water Ministries in Bolivia.

Last year, Danielson taught undergraduate biology at the University of St. Francis.

He and his wife Carol, a nurse practitioner, live in Channahon. They have three adult children and several grandchildren.

Nick Tyrell

Tyrell graduated from Plainfield Central High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in financial economics Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. After graduation, Tyrell worked for Edward Jones at its headquarters in Missouri.

In the Joliet office, Tyrell currently services individual investors with Human-Centered Complete Wealth Management.

Tyrell is an active member of the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce, the United Way of Will County, Joliet Area Young Professionals, Rotary Club of Joliet and the Alzheimer’s Association.

He is also the founder and former executive director of the Loyola University Dance Marathon, which has raised money for Lurie Children’s Hospital for the past 10 years.

Tyrell and his wife Amanda live in Shorewood.
