New Habitat for Humanity home will honor memory of Romeoville veteran

The construction is one of several events for Veterans Build 2021

Will County Habitat for Humanity will soon begin construction on a home at 1919 Cora St. in Crest Hill, according to a news release from Habitat for Humanity.

This home will be built in memory of veteran Ray Holloway, who was a member at American Legion Post 52 in Romeoville, and as part of Veterans Build 2021, a collaboration of six Habitat for Humanity affiliates in the Chicago area, the release said.

Holloway, who died in 2010, wanted all veterans to have access to safe and affordable housing, the release said.

Veterans Build is hosting a number of events from Nov. 11 to Nov. 13.

A virtual conversation among veterans about affordable housing will be 9 a.m. Thursday.

A build-site program in Winfield will held from 12:45 to 1:45 p.m. Thursday in Winfield. U.S. Sen. Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran, Purple Heart recipient and former U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs secretary is planning to attend, the release said.

With the support of American Legion, Post 52, Habitat for Humanity will host the Home Depot Foundation (Home Depot Homer Glen) and the Student Veterans of America Illinois Chapter (SVA-IL) at the Cora Street build site on Friday and Saturday, the release said,
