Students artists from Plainfield and Joliet win Scholastic awards

One student from Joliet Public Schools District 86 and 15 students from District 202 in Plainfield earned awards in the Scholastic Art and Writing Midwest Region competition.

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards were founded in 1923, according to the awards’ website at artandwriting.org.

Washington Junior High eighth grade student Maria Avalos Angeles earned a Gold Key award for her poem titled “No Hablo Inglés,” according to a news release from District 86.

Plainfield South High School senior Vivianne Angulo “is one of five American Vision nominees from the Suburban Chicago Region. Her ceramic sculpture, ‘Blossoming,’ will compete for the region’s Best of Show Award in New York,” according to a news release from District 202.

Works that received Gold Key awards are considered for national-level recognition, according to the awards’ website.
