Students from local high schools participated in art invitationals, competitions

Lewis University in Romeoville, University of St. Francis in Joliet hosted the events.

Nathaniel Smith won an honorable mention and $25 for his submission  “Forgot My Keys" at the recent University of St. Francis Art Exhibition & Competition.

Local students recently won awards for their artwork at events hosted by Lewis University in Romeoville and the University of St. Francis in Joliet.

Three Joliet Central High School photography students earned awards at the University of St. Francis Art Exhibition & Competition, where more than 175 works were featured, according to a news release from Joliet Township High School District 204.

Micah Greene was awarded Best in Show - Photo and $100 for her photo “Leaf Oven.”

Emily Tirado and Nathaniel Smith won honorable mentions and $25 for their submissions “Girl Behind the Dress” and “Forgot My Keys.”

Students from 8 high schools participated in art invitational at Lewis University

Adam Jackson of Plainfield East High School earned Best of Show at Lewis University’s fifth annual high school art invitational.

Jackson’s winning artwork was a photograph titled “Absence.”

The invitational was held Jan. 6 to Jan. 14 in the Wadsworth Family Gallery on Lewis Univesity’s Romeoville campus.

The show featured 36 works of art from high school students at eight local high schools. The following mediums were represented: mixed media, sculpture, painting, drawing, photography, etching and digital illustration.

According to Lewis Univesity, the following students also received awards:

Emily Guardado from Plainfield Central won first place for “Las Mujeres De Le Mañana.”

Scarlette Conners from Plainfield North won Second Place for the “Orchidaceae.”

Stephanie Flores from Romeoville High School won Third Place for “Luminary Series.

Honorable Mention awards were given to Ryan Hearne from Joliet Catholic Academy, Tania Rocha from Plainfield South High School, Connor Todd from Providence Catholic High School, Grace Weisner from Lockport Township High School, and Briana Zarazua from Plainfield East High School.

Plainfield North High School - Waverly Cayo, Guste Rutkauskas, Emily Scofield and Carlie Young

Providence Catholic High School - Samantha Dumstorf, Mason Freeman and Tabitha Shirley

Plainfield Central High School - Elisabeth Ebersole and Veronika Legler

Plainfield East High School - Kendall Haupt, Olivia Jones and Grace Wenerski

Joliet Catholic Academy - Ceara Johansson, Abigail Pasternak and Teresa Rodriguez

Romeoville High School - Bella Range and Emely Mendoza Sanchez
