5 Things to do in Will County: This weekend is for the birds and Metal Monkey

Enjoy some music and indoor walking, too

1) Metal Monkey Brewing is celebrating its sixth anniversary this weekend with special beer releases, live music, food trucks and special anniversary T-shirt. Celebration times are 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, 2 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. 2) Get an early morning walk inside where it’s warm. “Wake up & Walk” is back at the Dellwood Park Community Center from 8 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday. Walk around the gymnasium of the center, located at 1811 S. Lawrence Ave. in Lockport. Lockport residents and Challenge Fitness members get in free. Non-resident price is $2. Please bring ID. 3) Feel like music? Joliet American Legion Post 1080 can help. In the Pocket is hosting a dancing party from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday. In the Pocket plays dance music from the 1950s to the present day. On Saturday, 1960s band Shindig will perform, starting at 7 p.m. The American Legion Post 1080 is located at 2625 Ingalls Ave. in Joliet. 4) The Forest Preserve District of Will County will host a Winter Waterfowl Hike from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at McKinley Woods – Kerry Sheridan Grove in Channahon. “Discover winter bird visitors that are staying “toasty” in the Des Plaines River,” the forest preserve said. Dress for the weather. Free, all ages. Register by Friday by visiting reconnectwithnature.org or calling 815-722-9470.

5) For more bird fun, come out to the Joliet Bird Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Knights of Columbus Joliet Council 382, 100 S. Infantry Drive, Joliet. Meet bird lovers, ask questions, get tips, and save money on bird food, toys and supplies. Wing and nail trims for birds are $5 each. For information, visit midwestshows.org.
