DuPage league announces All-Conference team

The DuPage 14-and-under Conference recently announced its league award winners.

The All-Conference team includes pitcher Angel Vasquez, catcher Adam Bailey, first baseman Ryan Yurisich and outfielder Wes Owens.

Chosen from the Whiteford Bulldogs (Team 3) were pitcher Nate Scates, second baseman Ethan Vargas, shortstop Aiden Rodriguez and outfield Joe Durak.

Also selected from the Romeoville Titans were pitcher Cody Ray, catcher Danny Duenas and third baseman Tony Galloway.

The Morris team was represented by outfielder Logan Matzen.

The manager of the year was Rob Bailey of the Whiteford Bulldogs (Team 1).

High school baseball

The Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association recently released its All-State teams for the spring season.

Area players were honored with six spots on the Class 4A All-State team that consisted of 25 overall players.

Local players chosen were Joliet West catcher Ty Batusich, Plainfield East pitcher/outfielder Brady Louck, Lincoln-Way East’s tandem of Max Polad and Landen Looper and Lockport’s duo of Victor Izquerdo and Ryan Moerman.

High school basketball

The Illinois Basketball Coaches Association will host its annual All-Star Games at Pontiac High School this Saturday.

The day will begin with a North vs. South matchup of Class 1A/2A girls basketball players at 11 a.m. followed by a 1A/2A boys basketball showdown at 1 p.m. At 4 p.m. the 3A/4A girls basketball matchup will be conducted and the day of games will be closed out with a 6 p.m. contest that will pair of the 3A/4A All-Star teams.

Represented the area in the 1A/2A girls contest on the North squad are Dwight’s Kayla Kodat and Seneca’s Brooklyn Giertz. The head coach of the North team is Peotone’s Steve Strough and one of his assistants is Reed-Custer’s Shelby Zwolinski.

Joliet Central’s Jalysa Stokes is the only area representative playing in the 3A/4A girls game. Stokes will play for the South team.

The Class 1A/2A boys matchup will include Dwight’s Brandon Ceylor playing for the North team while there will be local representatives on both teams in the Class 3A/4A contest. Plainfield South’s Cooper Schmid, Bolingbrook’s Kyonte Thomas and Lockport’s Matas Deksyns will play for the North team, while Lincoln-Way Central’s Nick Tingley will suit up for the South team.
