DeKalb students started the new school year Wednesday as they returned to classes after summer break.

Culinary enthusiasts, home cooks and professional chefs put their creations up to the taste test Saturday for CASA DeKalb County's 21st annual Men Who Cook fundraiser in DeKalb.

Dozens of people including city officials, DeKalb School District 428 staff and family members from the school's namesake, Leroy Mitchell, gathered Friday to celebrate the opening of Dr. Leroy A. Mitchell Elementary School with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tour of the building.
