This weekend

History of Christmas Trees is on display through the end of December at the Owen P. Miles Museum, 107 W. Broadway, Mt. Carroll. Display includes items from the late 1800s up to the 1960s, including tree ornaments, Christmas cards and nativity sets. Museum hours during December will be Saturday, Tuesday and Thursday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., Sunday 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Family donation of $10 for this special event.

Music

Clinton Symphony Orchestra has performances Jan. 16 at Lutheran Church in Clinton, Iowa, Feb. 19 at Morrison High School, and April 30 at Vernon Cook Theater in Clinton.

First Friday Open mic, from 6 to 10 p.m. at Northside BarBQ, 117 N. Fourth St., Oregon. Draw for performance positions begins at 5:45 p.m. for a 15-minute time slot. When not onstage, groups will perform outside. No charge to listen, donations accepted. Find First Fridays Open Mic in Oregon on Facebook or 815-449-2660.

Theater productions

Historic Dixon TheatreL Tickets are on sale for the following shows at Historic Dixon Theatre, 114 S. Galena Ave. Go to dixontheatre.com/events/ for tickets or more information. Capriccio Piano Quartet, part of the Rendezvous Arts tour, will be 5:30 p.m. Jan. 13. Reza: Edge of Illusion, a ground-breaking grand scale production, will be 4 p.m. Jan. 23.

Art exhibits

Lions, Tigers and Bears exhibit, presented by The Next Picture Show, runs through Dec. 31 and can be viewed during regular business hours at KSB Commerce Towers, 215 E. First St. in Dixon. The exhibit features more than 40 works by local and regional artists.

Museums, exhibits and attractions

Loveland History Museum, 9 a.m. -2 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, Loveland Community House, 513 W. Second St., Dixon; free; lovelandcommunityhouse.org or 815-284-2741. The museum will be closed in observance of Christmas and New Year and will re-open for normal hours on Jan. 6.

Discovery Center Museum in Rockford has posted its holiday hours. It will be open 9:30 to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 20-23, Dec. 26-30 and Jan. 1-2. It will open 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1 to 4 p.m. on Dec. 31. It is closed Dec. 24-25. The Winter Wonderland will be Dec. 27-30. The New Year’s Eve “Countdown to Fun” will be Dec. 31.

The Harlem Globetrotters will bring its Spread Game Tour at 7 p.m. Thursday Dec. 30 at BMO Harris Bank Center in Rockford. Tickets start at $26 and are available at Ticketmaster.com or the arena box office.

All Aglow holiday display continues through Jan. 9 at Nicholas Conservatory and Gardens in Rockford. The event is free, though donations are accepted.
