Dixon thrift store Leydig adding one Saturday a month, starting Saturday

DIXON – Shoppers at the Leydig Center, 1107 Eyelet Road, soon will have one more day each month to track down used clothing, jewelry, sporting goods and other items at the popular resale shop.

The store, which used to be open 7 hours a day Monday, Thursday and Saturday, closed in early November because of COVID; it reopened April 1 on Thursdays only, with fewer hours, shopping from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and donations accepted from 8 a.m. to noon.

Those same hours now will be in effect the last Saturday of the month, starting this Saturday.

An increase in the volunteer base from about 25 a day to 40 is enabling the store to one more day each month.

“We knew that the community really needed to come on Saturdays, for a lot of people that were working, and we wanted to honor that,” said Susan Johnson, president of the Leydig board. “We did need to wait until we actually had enough workforce to actually open.”

Donors still are asked to sort their donated items, which will make it easier for volunteers to get those goods out to be sold.
