Nebraska dad charged with killing his two Rock Falls children, 5 and 3

ROCK FALLS – A GoFundMe account has been established to help pay funeral expenses for two Rock Falls children who police say were killed by their father in his Bellevue, Nebraska home.

The bodies of Emily, 5, and Teddy, 3, were found in Adam Price’s home south of Omaha Sunday morning. A cause of death has not been released.

Price and the children’s mother, Mary Nielsen, were divorcing, and it was his week to have the kids. When she didn’t hear from them for 2 days, as was required by their court-ordered custody arrangement, Nielsen twice called police and asked for a welfare check, once late Saturday and again the next morning.

No one answered the door either time, and police did not find anything that would give them legal justification to enter the home, Bellevue Police Capt. Andy Jashinske said during a news conference Monday.

It’s common for parents to call and claim that someone is violating a custody agreement, but officers can’t enforce custody agreements because they are a civil order, Jashinske said.

A friend of Nielsen’s found the bodies around 11 a.m. Sunday after checking the home at Nielsen’s request.

Price, 35, a Freeport native, was arrested in Pacifica, California, near San Francisco, Sunday night on a warrant charging him with two counts of felony child abuse resulting in death. Police found him after a license plate reader in Reno, Nevada hit on his plate heading west.

He is in Maguire Correctional Facility in San Mateo County, awaiting extradition to Nebraska, where those charges could be changed or increased once the Sarpy County attorney reviews the evidence.

According to her Facebook page, Nielsen met Price in March 2013, moved to Bellevue in October 2014, and they married in 2016. They filed for divorce in December, and were battling over custody, court records show.

Nielsen began working at CGH Medical Center in Sterling in October, she posted. She is a CNA, the hospital confirmed.

The GoFundMe fundraiser, which has a goal of $50,000, has raised nearly $35,000 in 2 days. Go to https://tinyurl.com/9ru4svwc to donate or for updates.

It was established by her friend Nikki Nielsen of Rock Falls, who went to high school with Mary, where they bonded over having the same last name, Nikki Nielsen told reporters.

McDonald Funeral Home will be handling arrangements.
