Area roundup: Sterling boys bowl past rival Dixon at Blackhawk Lanes

The Sterling boys bowling team hosted rival Dixon on Monday at Blackhawk Lanes, and defeated the Dukes 3,184-3,125.

The Golden Warriors won all three games by 35 pins or fewer: they won 979-927 in Game 1, 1,086-1,051 in Game 2, and 1,119-1,102 in Game 3.

Andrew Doughty rolled games of 212, 214, and 212 to lead Sterling with a 638 series, while Tristan Oelrichs finished off his 617 series with games of 212 and 223. Ethan Melcher had a 211 game in his 562 series, Dylan Doss added a 206 game in his 535 series, and Brenden Stanley rolled a 504 series. Declan Malooly (220 in two games) and Mikah Hernandez (108) split Sterling’s final series.

Ethan Tate closed his 604 series with games of 210 and 205, and Cody Geil opened his 603 with games of 213 and 211 for Dixon. David Laird added a 523 series, and Clark Bonnewell rolled a 511. Wyatt Miller (488, 230 high game) and Ben Zimmerman (396) rounded out the Dukes’ lineup.

Girls bowling

LaSalle-Peru 2,982, Dixon 2,762: The Duchesses won the second game 961-938, but lost the opener 1,051-848 and the finale 993-953 against the Cavaliers at Plum Hollow.

Tianna Bryson bowled games of 203, 205 and 201 for a dual-high 609 series for Dixon, while Grace DeBord added a 519 series and Autumn Swift rolled a 504. Abby Tate (418), Olivia Gingras (370) and Reign Bonnewell (342) also bowled for the Duchesses.

Olivia Weber led L-P with a 578 series and a 214 high game, while Isabella Weber added a 511 series, and Makenzie Hamilton rolled a 501.

Girls basketball

Mendota 41, Newman 39: The Comets couldn’t hold off a fourth-quarter comeback by the Trojans in a Three Rivers East road loss.

Jess Johns had 20 points and 17 rebounds to lead Newman (1-12, 0-2), and Ady Waldschmidt added seven points and 15 boards. Madison Duhon scored six, Syrinidie Fowkes finished with four, and Shannon Kelly added two for the Comets, who led 9-6 after one quarter, 21-19 at halftime, and 36-27 through three quarters.

Reanna Brant scored 19 points to pace Mendota.

Princeton 54, Bureau Valley 17: The Storm fell behind 20-6 after the opening quarter and never recovered in a Three Rivers East loss to the rival Tigresses at Prouty Gym.

Kaleen Carlson scored nine points to lead BV, while Jennifer Etheridge and Lynzie Cady each had two points and five rebounds. Kate Salisbury and Ryley Egar both nabbed two steals for the Storm.

McKenzie Hecht had 11 points, seven rebounds and five steals for Princeton, which led 30-8 by halftime and 45-11 through three quarters. Morgan Coleman added nine points and 10 rebounds, and Erin May had seven points, 10 boards and three steals. Mariah Hobson had nine points and four steals, Olivia Gartin added eight points, six rebounds and four steals, and Isa Ibarra chipped in seven points, eight rebounds and four steals for the Tigresses.

Amboy 37, Somonauk 25: The Clippers won a nonconference game at home, taking control with a 14-3 scoring edge in the second quarter.

Olivia Dinges had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds and three assists, and Maeve Larson added 10 points, six rebounds and four assists for Amboy. Lexi Ketchum scored five points, Elly Jones added three points and four assists, Olivia Miller scored a fourth-quarter basket, and Courtney Ortgiesen pulled down 11 rebounds.

Maggie Roberts scored 11 points to lead Somonauk.

Aquin 46, Milledgeville 14: The Missiles trailed 20-2 after the first quarter in an NUIC South loss at home.

Rylee Matthews had eight points to lead Milledgeville, while Ava Hively scored 13 to lead the Bulldogs.
