Girls basketball: Burlington Central’s Charles, Prairie Ridge’s Karlblom, Johnsburg’s Madsen named IBCA All-State

Burlington Central’s Taylor Charles, Prairie Ridge’s Karsen Karlblom and Johnsburg’s Macy Madsen were named to the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association’s All-State girls basketball team, which was released Monday.

Charles was named to the Class 3A first team. Karlblom (3A) and Madsen (2A) earned special mention.

Charles, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, averaged 13.5 points, 11.7 rebounds and 3.5 blocks a game for the Rockets while setting the team’s single-season records in rebounds (385) and blocks (116). Burlington was 23-10 and won its second consecutive regional title. Charles will play next year at NCAA Division I Princeton.

Karlblom, a 5-foot-11 senior guard, led area players in scoring (18.8 points a game) and 3-pointers (88). She ended her career as the program’s all-time leader in points (1,692), 3s (270) and steals (241). Prairie Ridge was an area-best 27-6 and won its first regional title since 2014. Karlblom will play next year at DIII Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

Madsen, a 5-foot-10 senior guard, helped lead the Skyhawks to their third straight regional championship and averaged 17 points, 7.4 rebounds and 2.5 steals a game, along with 73 3s. Madsen will play next year at McHenry County College.

Charles and Karlblom also were named to The Associated Press All-State team last week.
