Letter: Co-op investing in healthy food

To the Editor:

Because I believe and I love natural, healthy, fresh food, I am a Food Shed Co-op owner-member. Crystal Lake has been my home for 25 years, in which I subbed in the middle schools at District 47 and now am a retired volunteer, teaching both an exercise class and fall prevention sessions at Senior Services Associates in town. I know the importance and benefits of optimum health. I feed my body with healthy foods and try to keep fit.

Seniors, as well as everyone, need an affordable grocery store that carries such food. The Food Shed Co-op will stock our shelves with fresh produce from local farmers that provide much-needed nutrition. Our co-op has 1,141 owners and has purchased land on Route 14 and Lake Shore Drive in Woodstock, just minutes away from Crystal Lake. Our target is to open our grocery store in fall 2022.

We need more owners-members to fund the building and opening of our co-op grocery store. I invite you to check us out and make the fresh, healthy, affordable food a reality in our community.

For information, go to www.foodshed.coop or, better yet, come to the Community Investment Campaign Launch Party at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 15, at McHenry County College. Join us to open the Food Shed Co-op grocery store and be an invested owner.
