Employees of four Crystal Lake businesses were cited for selling tobacco products to underage customers, the Crystal Lake Police Department said.
The citations were the result of compliance checks on 43 local businesses licensed to sell tobacco products in Crystal Lake, according to a news release. These checks occur randomly throughout the year.
The checks involved people under the age of 21 entering a business and attempting to purchase tobacco products while under the guidance and supervision of Crystal Lake police officers, according to the release. Employees at four businesses did not appropriately check identification and completed the sales.
The four businesses where the illegal sales took place were Mobil gas station, 451 Virginia St.; Hemp Werks, 1295 Randall Road; Sunrise Liquor, 450 N. Route 31; and Wise Guys Vapes, 6217 Northwest Highway, according to the release.
The employee who completed the sale at each business was cited and adjudication hearings are scheduled for Dec. 10.
