Woman found dead in Burton’s Bridge incident identified

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office says no threat to public

A Crystal Lake woman whose death is being investigated after an incident in the Burton’s Bridge Beach area was identified Friday by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.

Megan Chamberlain, 36, was found dead Thursday morning on a beach in the area, according to a news release.

The preliminary cause of death is a fatal gunshot wound, the coroner said.

A spokesman for the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office previously told the Northwest Herald that the incident was isolated and presents no further threat to the public.

McHenry County Coroner Michael Rein’s office is working with the sheriff’s office during the investigation.

Rein said Friday that he is unable to say whether the death is being investigated as suspicious, but he did confirm that Chamberlain had a Crystal Lake address.
