Woodstock School District 200 recognizes 20 graduates with 2021 PRIDE Awards

PRIDE stands for ‘Positive Recognition in District 200 Education’

The Woodstock School District 200 Board recognized 20 Woodstock and Woodstock North high school graduates as recipients of 2021 PRIDE Awards.

The board created the PRIDE Awards in 1990 to honor “exceptional graduating seniors,” according to a news release from the district.

PRIDE stands for “Positive Recognition in District 200 Education.” The awards are presented in seven categories: scholarship, personal achievement, vocational excellence, fine arts, community service, school service and athletics.

For Woodstock High School, the recipients were Theresa Presisto and Zach Adams for athletics; Abigail Heidtke for community service; Elizabeth Arnold, Zoe Snook and Clara Wilk for fine arts; Allison Vandiver for personal achievement; McKenna Sweet for scholarship; Lili Duran Montero for school service; and Gunner Dunnett for vocational.

For Woodstock North High School, the recipients were Allison Goers and Blake Svitak for athletics; Emma Bremer for community service; Samantha Keyzer, Angelina Smith and Isabella Reyes for fine arts; Ramiya Robinson for personal achievement; Jason Thurow for scholarship; Kyla Grismer for school service; and Marissa Wells for vocational.

Winners were selected by committee and high school staff members who considered many factors in selecting for each category, said board Vice President Jacob Homuth, who also serves as chairman of the PRIDE committee.

“It’s been a memorable year for all of us, and these students overcame some great obstacles to get to this deserved level of recognition,” Homuth said in the release.

PRIDE Award winners were announced at the annual Senior Awards programs in May and received a special medallion to wear at graduation.
