A recycling event for McHenry County residents looking to dispose of their electronic recyclables, documents, clean Styrofoam, textiles and bulbs is planned for May 22 at McHenry County College in Crystal Lake.
The event will run 9 a.m. to noon May 22 at McHenry County College, 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake, according to a news release. Attendees are required to wear masks and are asked to stay in their vehicles; items to be recycled should be placed in the trunk of the vehicle.
The following electronics will be accepted TVs; computers, including desktop computers, laptops, netbooks, notebooks and tablets; keyboards and mice; printers, fax machines, scanners and small-scale servers; DVD players and recorders; VCRs; video game consoles; electronic keyboards and portable digital music players; and digital converter boxes, cable and satellite receivers.
Fees apply to recycle TVs and computer monitors, according to the news release. The cost is $15 for any-sized LCD monitors, $25 for all other units, including flatscreen and CRT, that are 20 inches or smaller; and $35 for all other units, including flat screen and CRT, that are larger than 20 inches.
Elgin Recycling will accept credit cards or cash on site. Masks must be worn to allow for payment transactions to occur.

Paper Tiger Document Solutions will provide a document shredding truck at the site to securely shred paper documents, free of charge. Document shredding will be available only until the truck is full.
This event is for residential purposes only, according to the release.
The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County will also be collecting fluorescent tubes for a cost of $0.50 to $1 each; clean Styrofoam; packing peanuts; reusable bubble wrap and cloth items, including clothing, linens, rags and shoes tied together by the laces, according to the release.
