Man flown to hospital with life-threatening injuries after dirt bike crash near Woodstock

Alcohol may have been a factor, sheriff’s office says

A man was flown to a Rockford hospital after suffering life-threatening injuries in a dirt bike crash about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the 1500 block of Rose Farm Road, the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District said in a news release.

Emergency crews were told the patient was unconscious and undergoing cardiopulmonary resuscitation while they were responding to the scene.

Once that information was provided, a medical helicopter was requested, with an initial expected landing zone of the Northwestern Woodstock Hospital.

When first responders arrived, they found a dirt bike and a male patient about 400 yards off Rose Farm Road in a field, suffering from various life-threatening injuries, according to the release.

He was flown to Javon Bae MercyHealth Hospital Riverside in Rockford in critical condition.

The crash on a trail south side of the railroad tracks in the area was not witnessed, McHenry County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Deputy Tim Creighton said, but the preliminary investigation showed the dirt bike driver lost control of the vehicle and was ejected.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, Creighton said.

“As of last night, information provided was the victim in stable condition. The crash is still under investigation at this time,” Creighton said.

He referred questions clarifying the man’s condition to the hospital. Hospital communications staff declined to provided information without a name.
