United Way of McHenry County CEO, president to retire in July

After four years leading United Way of Greater McHenry County, CEO and President Carole Peters announced plans to retire in July, the nonprofit said in a news release.

Under her tenure, Peters led campaigns that generated more than $6.7 million in the last few years, raised additional money for the McHenry County COVID-19 Response Fund, was honored by Shaw Media as a Woman of Distinction in 2018, and most recently was elected United Way of Illinois Board Chair for 2020-21, according to the release.

“Carole has created a dynamic team and has been a visionary, leading with compassion and integrity since joining United Way,” United Way of Greater McHenry County Board Chairman Steve Finzel said in the release. She has earned the respect of our community leaders, partner agencies and residents, engaging them and bringing them together in county-wide effort of helping our citizens.”

United Way of Greater McHenry County is a nonprofit organization that works with other area nonprofits to leverage volunteers and financial resources. It support 33 local nonprofit agencies and help fund 48 different programs in the areas of education, health and financial independence.

Since its inception in 1966, it has raised over $56 million dollars, according to the release.

“What a joy it has been to serve our McHenry County community,” Peters said in the release. “I have been blessed to meet so many amazing community leaders, supporters, volunteers and nonprofit agency directors and teams who truly care about giving back and serving our great county. I am looking forward to retiring alongside my husband and making new memories in this next chapter of life.”

United Way has begun the search for Peter’s replacement and is looking for a candidate with at least five to 10 years of experience and a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, social sciences or a related field, according to its website.
