McHenry man accused of displaying knife during 2019 attempted robbery of liquor store

60-year-old is also charged in a separate case with drug-induced homicide

A 60-year-old man was charged Friday with displaying a knife while demanding money from a McHenry liquor shop cashier in 2019.

Steven C. Glennon, of the 18400 block of Highview Road, already was detained Friday at the McHenry County Jail when prosecutors approved an additional charge of aggravated robbery. The felony offense typically carries a penalty of three to seven years in prison.

On May 9, 2019, Glennon allegedly entered Nezda’s Little Store, 502 Ringwood Road, and displayed a knife, according to a criminal complaint. Glennon then demanded money from the cash register and lottery machine at the front counter, court records show.

It was not immediately clear why the charges were filed more than a year after the alleged offense.

Glennon is charged in a separate case with drug-induced homicide. According to a criminal complaint, Glennon is accused of delivering a lethal dose of heroin and fentanyl to McHenry resident Alexander Ventresca on Nov. 26, 2019.

He remained at the McHenry County Jail Monday on a $225,000 bond, meaning he would need to post $22,500 bail to secure his release.

Glennon is scheduled for a bond hearing Tuesday morning.
