Harvard came from behind to snatch a 2-1 Grant Tournament victory over Cary-Grove in Fox Lake on Thursday thanks to a game-winner from Juan Silva with just 23 seconds remaining in regulation.
David Aquino also scored for Harvard in the victory, Martin Quintero had an assist and Andres Hernandez made six saves at keeper.
James Serio scored the Trojans’ lone goal and Sam Kedzior made five saves at keeper as they dropped to 0-3 on the season.
McHenry 1, Wauconda 1: At Wauconda, the Warriors’ first win of the season still eludes them following a Wauconda Tournament draw with the event’s host.
Tyson Jimenez scored McHenry’s lone goal and Tyler Juergensen made seven saves at keeper. The Warriors are 0-2-2 overall.
Guilford 1, Huntley 0: At Huntley, the Red Raiders suffered a loss in tournament play to fall to 2-1 on the season.
Aidan Huber made five saves at keeper in the loss.
VOLLEYBALL
Rockford Lutheran 2, Richmond-Burton 0: At Richmond, the Rockets suffered a 26-24, 25-16 loss at home. Kaitlyn Lehecka had eight assists and a pair of kills as R-B fell to 1-3 on the season.
Cary-Grove 2, McHenry 1: At McHenry, the Trojans rallied back from an opening-set loss to take down McHenry 18-25, 25-20, 25-12.
Abbie Honkala and Ella Boland had seven kills each in the loss for the Warriors, Aspen O’Brien set up 16 assists and Lexi Bania and Catarina Calabrese added 13 digs apiece.
Crystal Lake South 2, Dundee-Crown 0: At Crystal Lake, the Gators defended their home floor in a 25-18, 25-21 victory over the Chargers.
CLS improved to 4-0 overall with the victory. Emma Stowasser set up 20 assists and Morgan Jones had seven kills.
Makena Wesol had eight kills, 10 digs and three aces for D-C in the loss.
Hampshire 2, Crystal Lake Central 0: At Crystal Lake, the Whip-Purs earned an impressive road victory by taking down the Tigers 25-21, 26-24.
Gabi Peters stepped up for the Whips with nine kills in the victory. Hampshire improved to 3-2 overall with the win.
McKenna Timmerman had four kills, 10 digs and two blocks for Central in the loss.
Jacobs 2, Prairie Ridge 1: At Crystal Lake, the Golden Eagles came away with a big road victory in a back-and-forth affair against the Wolves.
Rachel Kaczorowski led the way for Jacobs with nine kills, 18 assists and 15 digs in the marathon win and Meredith Giustino had 17 digs, eight assists and two aces. Jacobs is 3-1 both overall and in Fox Valley Conference play.
Ansley Morlock had 10 kills and and 11 digs in the loss for PR, Breckan Severson had 14 digs and Rylee Schulze set up 13 assists and two digs.
Harvard 2, North Boone 1: At Harvard, the Hornets rallied back from an opening-set loss to notch their first win of the season 22-25, 25-11, 25-18.
Katelyn Duber had six kills in the victory for Harvard (1-3, 0-2 KRC) and Abby Perkins added nine digs.
GIRLS TENNIS
Marengo 3, Rockford Lutheran 2: At Marengo, despite dropping both of its singles matches, Marengo’s doubles pairs swept past Lutheran to earn a win in a close one.
Summer Kunzer and Jacelynn Lambert, Katie Walker and Gracie Phillips as well as Ashtyn Martin and Noelle Haas all earned doubles wins in the dramatic win.
Cary-Grove 6, Dundee-Crown 1: At Cary, the Trojans defended their home court with aplomb en route to a comfortable win over the Chargers.
C-G notched wins in all four doubles matches and two of its three singles contests to earn the comfortable win. Katie Jannusch and Brooke Iverson led the way with a 6-1, 6-3 win in No. 1 doubles.
Huntley 4, Crystal Lake Central 3: At Huntley, the Red Raiders handed the Tigers their first loss of the season in a back-and-forth Fox Valley Conference showdown.
Huntley snagged a pair of wins in both singles and doubles action, led by Ruhi Gulati’s 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 1 singles. Katie Hamill earned a singles win for the Tigers as they dropped to 4-1 overall and 0-1 in the FVC.
Marian Central 4, Johnsburg 3: At Johnsburg, the Hurricanes came a way with a road win thanks to a strong pair of singles matches from Madison Kenyon and Madeline Huff.
The teams split the four doubles matches, but Kenyon and Huff’s victories at No. 2 and No. 3 singles, respectively, sealed the deal for the ‘Canes.
GIRLS GOLF
Crystal Lake Central 193, Burlington Central 208: At Whisper Creek, Delaney Medlyn picked up medalist honors for the Tigers with a 41 in a strong win over the Rockets.
Maya Gusciora was tops for BC in the loss with a 44 and Addison Cleary also finished in under 50 strokes for CLC with a 47.
Hampshire 213, Jacobs 225: At Randall Oaks, the Whips benefitted massively from an excellent round of 43 from Lily Farnam to earn a home win over the Golden Eagles.
Kayla Doetsch led Jacobs with a 50 in the loss.
Harvard 198, Richmond-Burton 210: At Beaver Creek, the Hornets earned a nice win over the Rockets.
Julia Chupich led the way with a medal-winning round of 40.
Prairie Ridge 192, Wauconda 231: At Turnberry, the Wolves handily dispatched Wauconda in a comfortable victory that, due to unexpected delays, finished via flashlight.
Elizabeth Tucker was medalist for PR with a 43, Abby Kay and Jenna Albanese each shot 48 and Brooke Benjamin came in at 53 strokes in the win.
Marian Central 182, Johnsburg 223: At Boone Creek in Bull Valley, Ava Notaro led the Hurricanes with a 6-over 41 in their win over the Skyhawks.
Also scoring for Marian were Ella Notaro (45), Nina Notaro (47) and Jasmine Stevens (51).
Riley Klotz (50) led the Skyhawks. Amber Smith (54), Lana Bowers (59) and Chloe Benz (60) also scored for Johnsburg.
BOYS GOLF
McHenry 173, Cary-Grove 184: At McHenry Country Club, an excellent round from Max Bogenski led the way for the Warriors in a home win over the Trojans.
Bogenski shot a medal-winning 39 in the victory, Sam Huff shot 41, Will Currie came in at 46 and Ethan Jensen finished in 47 strokes. Tom Fornelli was the top finisher for C-G with a 42 in the loss.
Johnsburg 179, Harvard 182: At Chapel Hill, Mike Link led the way with a medal-winning round of 40 for the Skyhawks in a home victory over the Hornets.
Nick Grons and Mason Diedrich each shot 46 for Johnsburg and Nick Thill came in with a 47 in the victory. Myles Brincks led Harvard with a 42 and Logan Garafol shot 43 in the loss.
Crystal Lake Central 150, Hampshire 170: At Red Tail, Christian Wakeford and Eric Klutke shared medalist honors for the Tigers with twin rounds of even-par 36.
Bayden Hubacher and Charles Polash also posted qualifying scores for CLC with a pair of 39-stroke rounds. Hampshire’s high scorer was Jake Greenwald, who shot a 40.
Huntley 156, Burlington Central 159: At Pinecrest, Danny Sheedy led the way for Huntley with a one-over-par 37 as the Red Raiders improved to 4-0 in FVC play.
Chaz Rutke was the medalist for Burlington Central with a 36 despite the loss.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Richmond-Burton 28, Genoa-Kingston 29: At Genoa, the Rockets narrowly outdueled the Cogs on the road in a hotly contested duel.
Although, G-K’s Nathan Brening was the overall winner with a time of 19 minutes, 13.03 seconds, the Rockets finished second, third, fifth, sixth and 12th to earn the win by the skin of their teeth. Oscar Bonilla (19:17.56) led the way for R-B, Tristen Miller (19:34.75) qualified for third, Owen Weinfurtner (19:52.18) came fifth and Jacob Farmer (21:31.50) qualified sixth.
