High school sports roundup for Saturday, May 8

A 15-strikeout performance from ace Bri Bower led the way for Huntley in a 3-1 over Providence win in the second round of the Marengo Invite on Saturday.

Bower allowed just one earned on three hits to go with her prolific strikeout numbers, while also hitting a home run and driving in two runs to help her own cause.

Kate Mitchell was 2 for 3 with a double and two stolen bases as Huntley improved to 13-5.

Huntley 1, Kaneland 0: At Marengo, Bower struck out 12 and allowed only two hits in a shutout win over the Knights.

Mitchell had one hits and a stolen base in the victory and Bower knocked in the lone RBI.

Argyle 15, Alden-Hebron 5: At Orangeville, the Giants took the first of two losses at the Orangeville Tournament, falling in five innings to Argyle.

Abby Wanderer had two RBIs and Curry Geary and Rhayn Holicz had two hits apiece in the loss.

West Dubuque 17, Alden-Hebron 0: At Orangeville, the Giants’ second loss of the day saw them fail to scratch out any hits in a landslide loss.

Burlington Central 17, Woodstock 0: At Woodstock, the Rockets exploded for 17 runs while allowing the Blue Streaks just one hit in a blowout win.

Savannah L’Huillier doubled and drove in three runs for Central, while Alyssa Bekcer, Rylie Duval, Lauren Knief and Makayla McEwan drove in two apiece.

Antioch 13-16, Jacobs 3-6 (DH): At Antioch, the Golden Eagles suffered a pair of one-sided losses on the road.

Sarah Lynch homered and drove in two in the first game, Liz Smith hit a solo homer in game two, while Kaitlyn Wysong plated a pair.

BASEBALL

Richmond-Burton 5, Harvest Christian 0: At Richmond, Joseph Mrowiec threw six scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and two walks while striking out six to earn his fourth win of the season.

Hayden Christiansen tripled in the Rockets’ victory and Griffin Taylor was 2 for 2 with a double and a triple.

Antioch 5, McHenry 4: At McHenry, the Warriors came up just short at home against Antioch.

Gavin Micklinghoff took the loss for McHenry, allowing five earned on six hits and two walks in seven innings on the mound.

Yorkville Christian 12-14, Alden-Hebron 1-1 (DH): At Hebron, the Giants suffered a pair of one-sided conference losses to Yorkville Christian.

Justin Gritmacker had was 2 for 2 with two walks and two steals in the game one loss and Tyler Cunningham had an RBI.

Ben Vole had the lone hit in the game two loss.

Jacobs 10-8, Streamwood 0-0 (DH): At Algonquin, the Golden Eagles shut out Streamwood in back to back games.

Kyler Kennen earned the first shutout win, allowing no runs on two hits and two walks in five innings of work. Jack McMahon was 2 for 3 with six RBIs in the rout.

Owen Drummond and Brian Kobige combined for the second shutout. Drummond threw one perfect inning with a strikeout, then Kobige threw three scoreless and allowed two hits and a walk while striking out four.

Marian Central 11, St. Edward 6: At Woodstock, six St. Edward runs in the top of the fifth weren’t enough to deter the Hurricanes in a win at home.

Mason Schwalbach was 2 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs in the win, Nate Summy was 3 for 3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs and Riley Sarto knocked in two runs for Marian Central.

Stevenson 5, Prairie Ridge 3: At Lincolnshire, a comeback push came up short for the Wolves in a road loss to Stevenson.

Nathan Koteras doubled twice, scored twice and drove in a run in the loss.

Bartlett 5, Hampshire 0: At Hampshire, the Whip-Purs managed just one hit in a loss at home.

Dominick Kooistra’s fourth-inning single was the lone hit for the Whips.

Huntley 3-7, Lake Forest 2-3 (DH): At Huntley, the Red Raiders emerged victorious on both ends of a doubleheader at home.

Lucas Goldstein was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI in the game one victory, while Ryan Kelly was 2 for 3 with a home run and two RBIs in the second win.

GIRLS SOCCER

Huntley 2, Boylan 2: At Huntley, the Red Raiders battled back twice to force a tie with Boylan at home.

Marissa Gough evened things at one in the 25th minute on an assist from Alexis Winger and Ashley Donselaar knotted things up at two on an assist from Hanna Helzer in the 78th minute.

McHenry 1, Mundelein 1: At Mundelein, the Warriors played to a stalemate on the road.

Emerson Gasmann scored for McHenry on an assist from Sophie Gasmann. Gracie Gasmann made four saves.

TENNIS

Lakes Invitational: At Lake Villa, Crystal Lake Central finished second at the eight-team invite with four of its six flights advancing to championship matches.

Doubles team Ethan Bass and Ben Weichman won their championship match 6-0, 6-3 over Warren to lead the way for the Tigers.

Maine South Invite: Jacobs’ Kyle McNally secured first place in No. 2 singles, while the No. 1 doubles team of John Kaiser and Justin Cunningham also took home first place for the Golden Eagles. Thomas Nelson took third place at No. 1 singles.

BOYS LACROSSE

Jacobs 19, Dundee-Crown 3: At Carpentersville, the Golden Eagles’ goals came in bunches as they picked up a one-sided win on the road.

Justin Gretz scored seven times in the blowout victory, while Luke Bertone, Ayden Janchev and Brady Mollsen scored four times each.

WRESTLING

Marian Central Triangular: At Woodstock, the Hurricanes earned a pair of comfortable victories at home, taking down Wauconda 79-0 and Lake Forest 61-15.

McHenry Triangular: At McHenry, the Warriors one one and lost one, defeating Lake Zurich 50-27 and falling to Grant 37-33. McHenry is 6-1 overall this season.
