Route 176 between Walkup Avenue and Marian Parkway in Crystal Lake was closed to traffic due to a crash Thursday afternoon, officials report.

A preliminary investigation found that two pick-up trucks were traveling west on Route 176 near Marian Parkway when “one truck collided with the rear of the other,” Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Richard Neumann said in an email to the Northwest Herald. The driver, a Lake Zurich resident, who struck the truck was cited for failing to reduce speed to avoid a crash.

There were injuries as a result of the crash, but further details are unknown, Neumann said.

The city of Crystal Lake sent out an alert at 12:07 p.m. Thursday that traffic was closed off in both directions for about 40 minutes before reopening at 12:48 p.m., according to the alert.
