Route 351 resurfacing begins Friday in La Salle

One lane of traffic will be controlled by flaggers as the project is set to last into November

Road construction ahead

Route 351 in La Salle will be resurfaced beginning Friday, Oct. 22.

The work, conducted by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will take place between Civic Road and Canal Street.

One lane of traffic will be controlled by flaggers when workers are present and some short term side road closures will be needed.

Access to businesses and residences will be open but there may be some short periods of inaccessibility during the project, which is expected to continue into November.

Motorists should expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area, avoid the area when possible and use alternative routes, IDOT officials said.

Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

This planned construction is part of a $3.2 million project consisting of ADA sidewalk improvements and resurfacing on Route 351 through La Salle.

Over the next six years, IDOT is planning to improve more than 3,535 miles of highway and 9 million square feet of bridge deck as part of the Rebuild Illinois capital program.

This program is investing $33.2 billion into all modes of transportation. Through year two, the program has completed $5.2 billion worth of improvements statewide on 3,020 miles of highway, 270 bridges and 428 additional safety improvements.
