La Salle library hosts star party at Rotary Park

NASA ambassador will assist public in touring the night sky

The La Salle Public Library will be hosting NASA Solar System Ambassador, James Joel Knapper, when he assists the public in touring the night sky 8 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 12, during a Star Party, held at Rotary Park in La Salle.

Stargazing has been around since humans first looked up. Whether you’re an amateur astronomer, or someone who just wants to enjoy the stars and planets and learn a bit about them, the La Salle Public Library’s Star Party will be a fun opportunity, close to home. Telescopes will be available for observation, as well as astronomy binoculars. Red flashlights, used to maintain night vision, as well as planispheres, and tablets with night sky apps, will be available to locate objects, constellations, asterisms and planets.

The Star Party is a family-friendly event, and all city park rules apply. Registration is required. Register at the following link: https://bit.ly/3upDRgS. Masks are required for all who attend. Registrants will receive additional information at the email they provide after registering. The family-friendly program is free and open to the public. If inclement weather, the Star Party will be cancelled.
