The Bread Monk will offer Easter brunch suggestions on La Salle Library program

Father Dominic Garramone will give virtual presentation March 13

The La Salle Public Library virtually will host Father Dominic Garramone, the Bread Monk, from 1-2:30 p.m. Saturday when he presents “Beyond Hot Cross Buns with Father Dominic.”

Hot Cross Buns are traditionally served on Good Friday, but what to bake for Easter Brunch?

Father Dominic has some suggestions. In this narrated and illustrated presentation, he will offer three delicious Easter recipes to make with any basic white bread dough. He’ll demonstrate a braided loaf using a technique so simple even beginner bakers can make a showpiece bread, then a ham and cheese lattice loaf that is both pretty and hearty, and finally, his great-grandmother’s Austrian Povitica with a savory filling made of bacon, walnuts and eggs.

Father Dominic will answer questions at the end of his presentation and will provide a link to all featured recipes.

Father Dominic Garramone, OSB is a monk of St. Bede Abbey in Peru. He was the host of the PBS cooking show, “Breaking Bread with Father Dominic,” from 1999 to 2001, and has written several cookbooks. Dominic shares his knowledge of all things bread through bread demos throughout the country and also is an online baking instructor for craftsy.com. His “Breadhead Minutes” are aired on PBS and YouTube. He said he got his culinary education “between my mother’s kitchen, PBS and the public library.” For information, go to breadmonk.com.
