Roundup: L-P girls basketball takes fifth at Ottawa tournament

Brooklyn Ficek scored 39 points in two games Wednesday to lead the La Salle-Peru girls basketball team to a pair of wins at the Ottawa Holiday Tournament.

Ficek scored 21 points to help the Cavaliers to a 53-38 victory over Newark in the fifth-place game.

She had 18 points as the Cavs earned a 47-20 win over Illinois Valley Central in the seventh-place game.

L-P played in both games due to Joliet Catholic withdrawing from the tournament.

The Cavs drained five 3-pointers in the first quarter against Newark as they built a 21-11 lead.

Ficek scored 14 points in the first half as L-P extended its lead to 39-21 at halftime.

Addison Duttlinger scored 13 points for the Cavs.

Against IVC, Ficek sank four 3-pointers as L-P led 15-6 after the first quarter and 35-15 at halftime.

Taylor Martyn added seven points for L-P (12-2).

Ficek was named to the all-tournament team.

Riverdale 34, Mendota 27: Katie Jenner had 12 points, four rebounds and four steals Wednesday as the Trojans came up short in a Three Rivers Conference crossover in Port Byron.

Reanna Brant added six points and nine rebounds for MHS, which trailed 19-11 at halftime.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Yorkville Christian 94, Earlville 51: Griffin Cook scored 19 points Wednesday as the Red Raiders lost a nonconference game in Yorkville.

Bryar Keller contributed 17 points for Earlville (4-5).
