Peru Police Chief Bob Pyszka released a statement Tuesday morning detailing a smash and grab that occured at 4:40 p.m. Monday, Sept. 13, at the T-Mobile store on Route 251.

Pyszka said Peru police learned a stocky black man, who was wearing a long sleeve white shirt and black shorts entered the store and pushed an employee before taking three phones from behind the counter.

The officers were able to gather the suspect was driving an older four-door black Lexus, which had no plates and entered through the south entrance of Walmart. Upon returning to the vehicle, the suspect left the scene through the north entrance of Walmart.

Police believe the suspect was sitting in the Walmart parking lot for a lengthy time before entering the store.

Police are asking if anyone has any information on the vehicle or the suspect to contact the Peru Police Department at 815-223-2151 and ask for Det. Amy Sines.
