Quincy Gems use 8-run inning to top Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp, 10-2

The Quincy Gems exploded for eight runs in the sixth inning to defeat the visiting Illinois Valley Pistol Shrimp, 10-2, in Prospect League play Friday night.

The Pistol Shrimp, who had only five hits, were led by a single, double and RBI from Blake Atkins and a solo homer from Nolan Clifford. Starter Drake Frize (5 IP, 9 H, 5 ER, 1 K) took the loss, with Demian White (0 IP, 2 H, 4 ER) and Justin Rios (3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 3 K) also seeing time on the mound.

Quincy 8, Illinois Valley 7: On Thursday in Quincy, the Pistol Shrimp led, 6-4, before the host Gems scored single runs in the six, seventh and ninth innings to earn the win.

Keshawn Ogans (double, home run, RBI) and Garry Maynard (double, RBI) each had three hits for Illinois Valley (6-14), while Blake Atkins, Justin Rios and Necumba Booker Jr. (two RBIs) collected two hits apiece, and Logan Delgado added a solo homer. Mitch Benson (1 1/3 IP, 1 ER) took the loss in relief of starter Chandler Kerr (3 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 1 K) and Ryan Surin (3 2/3 IP, 1 ER, 3 K). The Gems outhit the Pistol Shrimp, 14-13.
