Challenger Ken Kolowski will appear first on April’s ballot ahead on Incumbent Scott Harl

Peru City Hall in Peru, Illinois

The city of Peru hosted a lottery Tuesday morning to determine the ballot order for candidates who turned in their paperwork, as filing opened Dec. 14.

The lottery solidified the ballot order after the period to file a petition ended Monday. The three positions included in the lottery were mayor, clerk and treasurer.

Both names for the positions were randomly selected for the right to appear first on the April 6 ballot.

For mayor, challenger Ken Kolowski will appear before incumbent Scott Harl. For clerk, incumbent Dave Bartley will appear before challenger Sherry Mayszak. For treasurer, incumbent John “Jackson” Powell will appear before challenger Nicole Pelegrini.

Aside from these three city positions, alderman seats in the 1st through the 4th wards also will be up for determination.

In the 1st Ward, incumbent Tony Ferrari elected not to pursue reelection; the race will feature two new faces, John MacLeod and Bob Tieman. MacLeod will appear first on the April ballot.

The race for the 2nd Ward also will not feature a sitting alderman. Tom Reardon and Jason Edgcomb will compete for election, with Rierdon appearing first on the ballot.

In the 3rd Ward, incumbent Mike Sapienza will oppose challenger Aaron Pinter. Sapienza will appear first on the ballot.

Rounding out the election candidates is incumbent Jim Lukosus in the 4th Ward, who will run unopposed.
