Zonta Club of Ottawa hosts Girls Recognition and Awards Tea

39 girls from 10 local schools honored for citizenship, good character

At the annual Girls Recognition and Awards Tea, the Zonta Club of Ottawa congratulated 39 girls from 10 local schools for their citizenship and good character.

Ottawa’s Zonta Club President Becky Keene welcomed the girls and their guardians and the Girls’ Tea Chairwomen Linda Barra and Kathy Mattes coordinated the event.

The honorees, from area third and fourth grades, are chosen by their teachers for outstanding citizenship qualities. The schools represented and honorees are:

Deer Park Community School: Savannah Thomas;

Jefferson School: Ruby Rodriguez, Raegan Rodriguez, Grace Rogers, Inara Mann, Susie Adams, and Mary Bryan;

Rutland School: Alexandra Aubry and Tylee Darif;

McKinley School: Aleena Bodhaine, Bella Zamarripa, Brooklyn Graham, Ashlyn Olesen, Abbie Chavarria, and Addison Shymanski;

Marquette Academy: Lilia Ailor and Kallyn Diss;

Marseilles Elementary: Amelia Kohrs, Gabriella Castille, Isabella Budach, and Lilly Trainor;

Seneca Community School: Eleanor Stein, Charlotte Shelton, Jalynn Estrada, Abby Jenkins, Elizibeth Budnick, and Danielle Kinser;

Wallace School: Breckyn Jobst, Calissa Kohut, Jillian Thrush, and Pearl Manning;

Lincoln School: Kylinn Willet, Olivia McGrath, Millyana Heredia, Mila Hendrick, Mayleigha Liddle, and Adelynn Duke;

Waltham Elementary: Peyton Etscheid and Bailey Sereno;

Zonta International strives to empower women worldwide through service and advocacy. The women of the Zonta Club of Ottawa are executives and professionals in the area. Zonta also has clubs in Streator and in the La Salle-Peru area.

Local projects include supporting victims of domestic violence and sexual assault through the Safe Journeys organization, the Zonta Says No to Domestic Violence program, the Red Stocking program, college scholarships, and an awards dinner for Women in Leadership in the Ottawa area.
