DES MOINES, Iowa – When he joined the Triple-A Iowa Cubs roster about a month ago, outfielder Michael Hermosillo began blistering the baseball.
The Ottawa High School product and two-time Times Baseball Player of the Year is still at it.
A 2013 Ottawa High School graduate and 28th-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2013 who signed with the Chicago Cubs as a free agent this offseason, Hermosillo came into Friday night’s game at Indianapolis batting .351 (27-of-77) with six doubles, four home runs, 17 RBIs, five stolen bases and a 1.048 OPS. The right fielder has played in 22 games this season, all at the Triple-A level.
The Iowa Cubs (18-30) close out their series in Indianapolis on Sunday, then return home to Des Moines for a six-game homestand against the St. Paul Saints.
