ELMHURST – A webinar on public health will be presented by Elmhurst University at 11:30 a.m. March 8.

Public health is about more than pandemics and epidemiology, a news release stated. Public health professionals are on the front lines of preventing gun violence, cleaning the air and water and making workplaces safer. They bring fresh approaches to persistent problems.

The webinar speaker will be Dr. Molly Tran, who leads Elmhurst University’s undergraduate and graduate programs in public health. Tran will present the free, hour-long talk on “More Than Epidemiology: The Many Facets of Public Health.”

Tran will explore the wide array of challenges public health professionals address every day and discuss how the university’s public health program is preparing students to lead with innovation. During the webinar, participants will learn:

• The various facets that make up the field of public health

• The social determinants of health and their impacts on people’s lives

• The biggest public health issues people are facing today aside from the pandemic, including an increasing focus on mental health

• Tools for public health transformation and innovation, including policy, social norms, laws and engineering

• Career opportunities in public health and how these professionals join forces to improve population health

The webinar will conclude with a Q&A session for participants.

Tran has worked extensively in the public health field as an instructor, researcher and physician. Besides leading the public health programs at Elmhurst, she also is an assistant professor in the Department of Nursing and Health Sciences. Before coming to Elmhurst, she taught at the Colorado School of Public Health.
