Blood donation, COVID-19 testing drive set in Westmont

blood drive

WESTMONT – State Rep. Deanne Mazzochi (R-Elmhurst) will sponsor on Oct. 29 a drive for community members looking to help save lives and stay ahead of COVID-19.

Vitalant blood bank will be on hand to gather blood donations. Free COVID-19 and COVID-19 antibody testing also will be available for those who are interested in the service, thanks to Mazzochi’s partnership with IndiviDx, a news release stated.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 29, at the Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass Ave., Westmont.

“Both elements of this event were a big hit last month; we were able to secure a lot of donations, and many people appreciated the COVID screenings,” Mazzochi stated in the release. “I’m bringing back both Vitalant and IndiviDx to the district because these services are important for our community.”

New sources of blood drives are valuable, as many colleges, private businesses, and other avenues for blood donations have stopped hosting drives since March 2020. Walk-ins are welcome, but as a COVID-19 precaution and to save time, making an appointment for blood donation is strongly preferred. Interested blood donors can make an appointment to donate by visiting RepMazzochi.com or by contacting her office at 630-852-8633.

“While I want as many people as possible to help us in saving lives by donating blood, you do not need to donate blood in order to get this free COVID testing service,” Mazzochi said.
