DuPage County surpasses 60,000 COVID-19 cases with 227 infections reported Saturday, 7 deaths

The DuPage County Health Department on Saturday reported a decrease 227 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 in the county, with 7 deaths: 1 man in his 40s, 1 man in his 60s, 3 men in their 70s and 2 men in their 80s.

The county now has seen a total of 60,172 coronavirus cases including 974 deaths since the start of the pandemic, according to the health department. The recovery rate among DuPage County cases as of Dec. 29 was 97.8%.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 11 consecutive days under 12%. The region’s positivity rate increased to 9.4%. Currently, 17.4% of medical/surgical beds and 25.7% of ICU beds are available.

The region has 11 consecutive days over the 20% threshold for ICU bed availability, and three consecutive days under the 20% threshold for medical/surgical bed availability.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity average is at 11.4%, and DuPage County is at 8.4%.

Finally, within the DuPage/Kane region, there are 86 of 324 staffed ICU beds available and 377 ventilators available out of 579.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported on Saturday 4,762 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 29 additional deaths.

The seven-day rolling average of Illinois’ positivity rate increased from 8.1% to 8.3%.

By town, Wheaton has had 3,216 total cases, Glen Ellyn 2,252, Lombard 3,092, Villa Park 1,878, Hinsdale 930, Westmont 1,497, Darien 1,213, Woodridge 1,896, Downers Grove 2,752, Elmhurst 3,086, Warrenville 966 and Winfield 777. Addison has had 3,788 confirmed cases, Naperville 5,133, Carol Stream 3,274 and West Chicago 3,344.
