Letter: Lessons and lists for the new year

keyboard, letter to the editor

To the Editor:

Some of us are of an age whereby we can look back to the Great Depression. Now we shall strive to live through the Great Pandemic. If you have already broken your New Year’s resolutions, here are some ideas.

First, make lists, to-do lists. Try to use items that are doable so that you can celebrate as you check them off. A feeling of accomplishment is worth a lot. For one thing, being a list person helps one to have a sense of purpose. In these shut-in times, that’s a must.

Next, stay connected whether by phone, email, a letter or text, even by Zoom. You will not only help yourself, but others.

Finally, do more reading. Our local library is most helpful. You can do a book club by Zoom that helps [us] stay connected. Sunday’s Chicago Tribune had numerous book suggestions and one was a new book by one our favorite authors, Louise Erdrich. The title is, “The Night Watchman.” We joined our book club out of curiosity for the title of another of Louise’s books, “The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse.”

I must go now so I can check off this letter to the editor.
