Get outside at Farnsworth House this spring

The 2021 tour season has opened at Farnsworth House. In addition to the selection of tours, there is a lineup of outdoor, socially-distanced programming. Visit to get out of the house and enjoy the natural world on the grounds of Farnsworth House. Tickets for the following programs are now available:

Earth Day at Farnsworth House: Thursday, April 22, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Purchase a guided tour or exterior access pass and enjoy the property on Earth Day. Pack a picnic, track down identified tree and wildflowers species. You might even catch some early birds of spring migration. There will be eco-friendly specials in the museum shop and a sustainable giveaway for all ticket holders.

Spring Wildflower Walk with the Kendall County Forest Preserve: Saturday, May 8, 10 a.m. Native wildflowers carpet the forest floor of the Farnsworth House property each spring. Join the Kendall County Forest Preserve District and learn how to identify these wildflowers on a pleasant walk of the grounds. Cost is $10 per person.

Spring Migration Bird Walk: Saturday, May 15, 8 a.m. to noon. Have you ever wanted to learn more about birds and how to identify them? Join birding experts to gain firsthand knowledge of bird identification while walking the beautiful grounds of Farnsworth House. This is the perfect program to start amateur bird watching, all levels and ages are welcome. Don’t forget to bring binoculars and/or a camera. Cost is $10 per person.

Moonlight Tour: Saturday, May 29, 7 p.m. Discover the celebrated Farnsworth House in a new light during the special Moonlight Tours. These exclusive tours will start at dusk and return after dark, lasting approximately 90 minutes. Guests will be led along a lighted path with woods on one side and the Fox River on the other, to enjoy a full guided tour of Farnsworth House illuminated against the evening sky. Cost is $30 per person.

A full schedule of tours has returned to Farnsworth House. Sixty-minute guided tours and exterior view and grounds access tickets will be available Wednesday through Sunday. Last admission for these grounds access tickets is 2 p.m. Purchase of tickets in advance is encouraged as tickets are limited.

Throughout 2021, Farnsworth House will continue to celebrate Edith Farnsworth, her life and legacies with Edith Farnsworth’s Country House - a temporary refurnishing of Farnsworth House to reflect its c. 1955 appearance. Edith Farnsworth Reconsidered will remain on view in the Visitor Center and focuses on the story of this remarkable woman, who was an accomplished research physician, a classically-trained violinist, poet and translator, world traveler, and music-lover. Watch for more exhibitions, programs and events in the coming year which focus on women of design and highlight Edith’s passions.
