YHS musician receives national honor

During the 2019-20 school year, Danica Tuohy, a Yorkville High School junior, obtained the Illinois Music Educators Association (ILMEA) All-State Music recognition.

The recognition enabled Tuohy to join the “best of the best” for the National Association for Music Education 2020 All-National Honor Ensembles virtual event in January. Each of the All-National Honor Ensembles created a final, recorded performance that will premiere online during the National Association for Music Education’s Music In Our Schools Month® in March 2021.

Tuohy plays French Horn in the Yorkville High School Wind Ensemble. She also plays trumpet in the YHS Jazz Ensemble, mellophone in the YHS Marching Foxes, and is a member of the YHS Horn Quartet.

As a sophomore, Tuohy successfully auditioned for and achieved All-State status as a musician in Illinois. She attended Interlochen Arts Camp in the summer and studies private lessons with Susan Oszvath. She is also the Principal Horn of the world-renown, Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra.

The All-National Honor Ensembles performers represent collaboration and creativity inits highest musical form. Students were chosen through an audition process.
