Plano police used an electronic shock device to subdue a Hinckley man after police said he became physically combative with officers during a traffic stop at 7:53 p.m. Feb. 17 in the area of East Abe and North James streets.

In a statement, police said Bradford R. Cully, 51 of the 500 block of James Street was arrested on charges of aggravated battery to a peace officer, endangering the life or health of a child, obstructing and resisting a peace officer and driving under the influence. In addition, police said Cully was issued multiple traffic citations.

Police said Little Rock Fox Fire Protection District paramedics evaluated Cully after he was shocked by officers in accordance with department policy. Upon his release by the paramedics, he was booked at the Plano police station and then taken to the Kendall County Jail in Yorkville pending court proceedings.

Police said in the statement that upon stopping Cully’s vehicle after observing multiple traffic violations, officers asked him to get out of his car. After Cully refused, officers attempted to remove him from the vehicle.

“Plano officers used the least amount of force necessary to remove the driver from the vehicle,” police said.

At that time, police said Cully became physically combative with officers and during an altercation an officer was kicked multiple times. Another officer then used the electronic shock device on the suspect, which allowed offers to place him in handcuffs, police said.
