High school sports roundup for Tuesday, Jan. 11: Yorkville Christian beats Orr in matchup of top-ranked teams

BOYS BASKETBALL

Yorkville Christian 81, Orr 72

Jaden Schutt scored 28 points and KJ Vasser added 21 for the host Mustangs (11-9), who won the matchup of the No. 1 team in Class 1A vs. the No. 1 team in Class 2A. David Douglas Jr. and Brayden Long each added 12 points for Yorkville Christian, which hit 15 3-pointers.

Marquell Crump and Caleb Hannah each scored 16 points for Orr (7-2).

Oswego East 63, Plainfield Central 59

Mekhi Lowery scored 20 points, Patrick Robinson 19 and DeVon Oregon 11 for the Wolves (18-1, 8-0 Southwest Prairie Conference).

Romeoville 46, Yorkville 43

The Foxes couldn’t overcome a cold shooting night and lost to Romeoville. LeBaron Lee scored a team-high 17 points and Lucas Fisher added 11 with three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. John Swarn added nine points for Yorkville (7-10, 2-6).

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Yorkville 59, Romeoville 40

In their best performance of the season, the Foxes jumped out to a 19-8 lead after one quarter and never looked back. Abby Pool and Kenzie Phillips scored 13 points apiece, Courtney Morse added 11 and Alex Stewart nine for Yorkville (5-14, 2-5), which had nine different players score and out-rebounded Romeoville 32-25.

Oswego East 53, Plainfield Central 40

Maddie Stockley scored 17 of her 20 points in the first half and hit six 3-pointers to pace the Wolves (7-11, 4-3). Cami Phillips added 10 points.

Joliet West 61, Oswego 33

Riley Borrowman, Anna Johnson and Emily Mengerink each scored seven points for the Panthers.
