We are excited to inform you that as of June 1, Town and Country Public Library will be lifting the majority of its COVID restrictions!
Tables and chairs will return to the public area, and patrons are welcome to stay and read or work. Study rooms will again be available on a first come, first served basis, and our conference room and meeting room can be reserved beginning June 1 as well. We will continue to follow guidance from the CDC and Illinois Department of Public Health and may return to previous restrictions should the need arise.
Summer Reading begins June 1, and this year’s theme is “Reading Colors Your World!” Summer Reading is open to all ages, and an assortment of fun prizes will be awarded throughout the summer! We hope you will join us in this always popular program. Sign up at the library, or by visiting: elburn.readsquared.com.
June ushers in a new season of inspiring youth programs including writing and arts and crafts workshops, and a variety of virtual as well as in-person outdoor storytimes and read-alouds! In a monthly virtual painting workshop featuring projects and books inspired by the topic of color, participants will learn about different art styles, color theory, and famous artists known for their work with color. Some of the crafts we have in store this summer include ice cream making and DIY tin can lanterns!
For adults, our film club is back, and it’s the Summer of Hitchcock! Join us on Fridays June 4 and 18 from 6-9 p.m. as we watch some of Hitchcock’s greatest films together from our own living rooms! During these virtual programs, film studies instructor Joshua Casburn will help us experience Hitchcock’s movies in a new way. Pop some popcorn, get comfy and learn some of the secrets of this master of suspense!
On Thursday, June 24, join us for a virtual screening of “The Long Shadow” with a live Q&A. In recognition of Juneteenth, Town and Country Public Library is partnering with other Illinois libraries to bring you a special viewing and discussion of the film. Stream the movie any time between June 21-28, and join the live Zoom Q&A with the director from 7-10 p.m. on June 24.
If you love talking about the books you’re reading or getting recommendations, join us for the BYOB (Bring Your Own Book) Club! We’ll meet on Wednesday, June 23 from 10:30-11:30 a.m., outside at the park on 3rd Street, across from the library. Bring a lawn chair and a book recommendation to share with the group!
The Friends of the Town and Country Public Library were able to host their annual Mother’s Day Plant Sale again this year, and it was a great success! Next year’s fundraiser, May 6 and 7, 2022, is already on the books, and the Friends look forward to hosting the Saturday morning hospitality coffee bar in the near future.
