St. Charles North junior’s art project wins silver medal in national competition

St. Charles North High School junior Natalie Lamb has received a silver medal in a national scholarship and recognition program for young artists and writers in grades 7–12.

Lamb’s work, Contemplation, earned a silver medal in the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers’ 98th annual 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Award program. More than 80,000 students submitted nearly 230,000 works of art and writing in the competition.

Only 2,000 works received a national medal, which places Lamb within the top 1% of all submissions. Last semester, St. Charles North High School students in an art class worked on a variety of projects that showed different skills.

“I had a crazy set up with this photoshoot,” Lamb said in a news release from Dist. 303. “I asked my brother to stand in my bathtub with a mirror in front of him while I poured water all over his face. In the end, I was able to capture some pretty cool pictures like Contemplation.”

Her work will be published in June in the Scholastic Art Online Galleries at artandwriting.org Her work will also be listed in the Yearbook 2021, a companion publication to The Best Teen Art and The Best Teen Writing anthologies which feature a selection of work by National Medalists.
