Memorial created to honor two men who died in Batavia car crash

A memorial was created near the site where two men died after a car crash on Fabyan Parkway in Batavia Sunday night.

The makeshift memorial honors Brian Froehlich, 18, of Elburn, and Farzin Khamis-Zadegan, 21, of Batavia.

According to a report from Kane County Coroner Rob Russell’s office, an autopsy found the two men died from multiple injuries from a “motor vehicle mishap.” Toxicology samples were collected and are being analyzed.

The accident happened around 7:15 p.m. Sunday, when a Ford Mustang driven by Khamis-Zadegan crossed the center line in the 700 block of West Fabyan and was hit by a Kia Optima. Both men died at the scene, while the driver of the Kia, a 37-year-old woman, and two children were taken to a local hospital. The woman and a 6-year-old boy were released from the hospital Monday, while a 12-year-old boy remains hospitalized.

Froehlich was a student at St. Charles North High School, according to Batavia police.
