Oswego co-op’s Chase Maier has record-setting day at sectional meet; Marmion wins meet, Oswego third
Oswego Co-op senior Chase Maier won the 500 freestyle in a pool record time, swam on the 400 relay that set another pool record and also won the 200 free, while Marmion won the team title and Oswego Co-op was third at the Neuqua Valley Sectional.
Four St. Charles North sophomores won five events including two events by Thomas McMillan as the North Stars rolled to the conference title with 281 points. Wheaton co-op was the runner-up with 215 points
St. Charles East senior Kyle Algrim, who placed sixth at state in the 500-yard freestyle and broke the school record in the 200 individual medley, is the Kane County Chronicle Athlete of the Week in an online vote. Here is his Q&A with Sports Editor Joshua Welge.

West Chicago claimed first place in the talent-laden St. Charles East sectional with 256 points. St. Charles North was the runner-up with a score of 224 while host East was third with 208 points. Conant took fourth with 196 points.
Marmion was second and Oswego Co-op third at the Metea Valley Sectional swimming meet on Saturday, while Oswego's Chase Maier swept the 200 and 500 freestyle races and Marmion's Brayden Capen won the 200 IM to lead state qualifiers.
Led by first-place efforts from freshman Thomas McMillan, who won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly, St. Charles North edged St. Charles East to win the DuKane Conference swimming title.
Winning eight of 12 events, defending state champion Hinsdale Central was impressive in claiming top honors at Saturday’s St. Charles Invitational on Saturday with 384 points.
St. Charles North was second and St. Charles East was third at the sectional swimming meet won by Lake Park on Saturday in St. Charles.
