Big drop in new COVID-19 cases reported in Kane County Thursday

Two additional deaths reported

Illinois public officials on Thursday reported 62 new cases of COVID-19 in Kane County and two new deaths, a man in his 70s and a woman in her 80s. There were 102 new cases reported Wednesday.

Kane County has now seen 57,744 total cases of the virus and 769 people have died.

The West Suburban region (DuPage and Kane counties) has seen 106 consecutive days below 8%. The region’s positivity rate stayed flat at 5.1%. Currently, 21% of ICU beds are available.

Within this region, Kane County’s seven-day positivity stayed flat at 6.3%, and DuPage County’s decreased to 4.5%.

Hospitalizations have decreased or remained stable seven out of the past 10 days in this region.

The positivity rate is the percentage of people who test positive out of all the people tested in a given time period. Additional restrictions can be placed on any of the state’s 11 health regions if the region sustains an increase in its average positivity rate for seven days out of a 10-day period.

The Illinois Department of Public Health reported 1,778 new confirmed and probable cases of COVID-19 and 40 additional deaths Thursday. The IDPH received the results of 96,296 tests leading up to Thursday afternoon.

According to the IDPH, the rolling seven-day positivity rate average in the state is 3.0%.

Illinois now has seen 1,348,176 total cases of the virus, and 22,136 people have died.
