St. Charles police were able to extricate an 80-year-old driver trapped in his upside down vehicle just after noon Thursday.

Officers were dispatched to a rollover traffic crash at the 900 Block of South Third Street at 12:11 p.m. and responded within minutes, Deputy Chief Eric Mahan said.

Mahan said the driver, whose name is not being released at this time, was the only occupant in the vehicle when he struck a parked car on Third Street and rolled upside down.

Mahan said a ticket was issued for failing to reduce speed to avoid an incident, but there was no indication that he was traveling over the speed limit.

The driver was taken to Delnor Hospital for precautionary reasons, but had no apparent injuries, Mahan said.

St. Charles Fire Department personnel also were on the scene.
