Peru residential fire forces evacuation; roof caves in

Fire crews from neighboring towns are assisting in fighting the blaze

A Peru fire truck departs the scene of a small fire inside of Allure of Peru on Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2025 in Peru. Once fire crews arrived on the scene, smoke could be seen coming from a electrical panel in the kitchen. Several residents were evacuated. No injuries were reported. Minor damage was reported and residents were allowed to return inside.

Peru firefighters were dispatched at 2:10 p.m. to a fire that broke out at a home in the 1900 block of Main Street, near the junction of Market, Main and Schuyler streets. The sole occupant evacuated safely, authorities said. The first was still active at 2:40 p.m.

A substantial portion of the roof had caved in and smoke and flames were visible from the remains.

School buses were rerouted away from the scene.

Peru, La Salle, Tonica, Oglesby and Utica firefighters are on the scene, while crews from Troy Grove and Wallace are en route.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
