Luther Walker -- St. Anne
Visitation for Luther Walker, 92, of St. Anne, will be from 10 a.m. Saturday until the 11 a.m. services at St. Anne Woods Community Chapel, St. Anne. Rev. Louis Barnes will officiate.
Burial will be in Momence Cemetery, Ganeer Township. He died Friday (Dec. 29, 2006) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee. Leggett Funeral Home, Hopkins Park, is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Walker was a retired laborer. He had worked at Handchy Chemical Company. He was born July 30, 1914, in Sterling, Ga., the son of Matthew and Carrie Lee Carter Walker. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed farming, tailoring, playing the guitar and harmonica, and dancing.
Surviving are his wife, the former Doretha Coakley, whom he married Feb. 7, 1942, in Palatka, Fla.; two sons, Kenneth Coakley of Momence, J.W. Walker of Waycross, Ga.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Abraham Walker and Isaac Walker, both of Jacksonville, Fla.; three sisters, Gertrude Smith of Jacksonville, Fla., Pauline Walker of Maywood, Elizabeth Rich of Avon Park, Fla.; and four sisters-in-law, Serena Walker of Kankakee, Dorothy Brown of Athens, Ga., Mike Dubose of Hawthorne, Fla., and Everlee Walker of Chicago.
Deceased are six brothers and three sisters.
