DeKALB – An apartment building on Kimberly Drive sustained about $35,000 worth of damages after a fire Tuesday night, according to DeKalb city fire officials, though no injures to residents or firefighters were reported.

According to a Wednesday news release from DeKalb fire officials, the call for the fire, which started in the building’s stairway, came in at 10:51 p.m. Tuesday in the 800 block of Kimberly Drive. The DeKalb Fire Department was dispatched for a fire on the second floor at the address.

“On arrival, fire companies reported nothing showing from the exterior, but smoke conditions in the stairwell,” fire officials wrote in the release.

Firefighters also searched for victims and additional fire in the building, finding none. The fire was under control within 15 minutes of crews arriving, according to the release.

“Fire, smoke, and water damage were limited, and all apartment units remained habitable,” fire officials wrote in the release.

DeKalb fire officials confirmed the fire reportedly caused $35,000 in damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the DeKalb Fire Department Fire Investigation Team.

The DeKalb Fire Department was assisted by Cortland, Maple Park, Shabbona, Sycamore, and Genoa-Kingston Fire Departments, along with DeKalb and Northern Illinois University police, according to the release.
