‘A Worthy Calling: 125+ Years of Teaching Teachers’ presentation to be held Nov. 10

SYCAMORE – The DeKalb County Historical-Genealogical Society will host a presentation highlighting educators.

The presentation, which will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, will be at the DeKalb County History Center, 1730 N. Main St. in Sycamore.

The presentation, titled “A Worthy Calling: 125+ Years of Teaching Teachers,” will be led by Patrick Roberts, associate professor at Northern Illinois University.

The presentation will share highlights from the Blackwell History of Education Museum’s new exhibit, “A Worthy Calling: 125+ Years of Teaching Teachers.” Artifacts, books and images that chart NIU’s growth from a small, rural Normal School to a leader in teacher educator will be shared.

Roberts is an associate professor in the Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology and Foundations at NIU, and is the faculty director of the Blackwell History of American Education Museum. He is the former education director of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago, and he teaches museum education in NIU’s Graduate Certificate in Museum Studies program.

The DeKalb County Historical-Genealogical Society sponsors seven programs a year to promote the history and genealogy of DeKalb County. This is the last program for 2021. Membership of $25 a year includes a subscription to the DCHGS local history magazine “Cornsilk” and special programs.
